To know Jesus, to make Jesus known 2 King 5: 1-3 열왕기하 예수님을 알립시다!

 

 여러분 챨스 슈타인메츠라는 사람의 이름을 들어보셨습니까? 이 사람이 전기에 대한한 천재라고 불리는  그런 사람이었습니다.  우리들은 달인이라는 말을 쓰기도 합니다. 이 사람이 특별히 미시건에 있는 포드 자동차 공장에 발전기를 설계해주고 만들었던 것으로 유명합니다.

Have you ever heard of the name CHARLES STEINMETZ?  In the field of electricity, Charles Steinmetz is generally believed to be one of the greatest technicians in his days. Particularly, Steinmetz designed and built the great generators for Henry Ford in his first plant in Dearborn, Michigan.

 

그 발전기는 잘 돌아갔고 몇 달동안은 별 문제가 없었습니다. 그러던 어느날 아주 갑자기 그 기계가 덜컹 거리면서 멈추었습니다. 그리고 포드 자동차 회사의 공장은 컴컴 해졌습니다. 공장의 기술자들이 온통 달라붙어서 원이니 무엇인지 찾아보려고 했지만, 도무지 찾을 수가 없었고, 공장은 시간과 돈을 계속해서 버리고 있는 셈이 되어버렸습니다. 할수 없이 포드는 기술자 챨리 슈타인메츠를 불렀고, 그 사람은 즉시 나타나 일을 하기 시작했습니다. 그 사람은 몇가지를 두들겨 보고, 스위치를 껏다 켰다 하고, 모터를 움직여 보더니 아주 금방 그 발전기를 고쳐놓았습니다.

Once everything was in place, the assembly line worked like clockwork. Things ran along smoothly for months. Suddenly, one day, without warning, the machines stopped. Ford Motor Company went dark. One technician after another was unable to locate the problem, they were losing money rapidly. Finally, Ford contacted with Charles Steinmetz, he showed up and immediately went to work. He fiddled around with some switches and a gauge or two. He tinkered with this motor and that one and messed with a few wires. He then threw the master switch, and the lights blinked on, and things were back to normal.

 

몇일이 지나서 헨리포드는 그 기술자로부터 만불을 달라는 빌을 받게 되었습니다. 포드가 아무리 부자라고 하지만 그 빌을 보고 놀랄수 밖에 없었습니다. 도대체 별로 한 것도 없어 보이는데 만불을 달라고 했던 것이 너무 한 것이 아닌가 생각했습니다.  그래서 다시 빌을 보내면서 이런 말을 했습니다. “여보시오 좀 너무한 것 이나오 몇분 일한 것 뿐인데 그렇게 돈을 많이 받아 먹으면 되겠소?” 그러자 슈타인메츠는 다시 빌을 돌려보내면서 이렇게 대답했다고 합니다. 네 맞습니다. 고친 수리비는 10불이지만, 무엇을 고쳐야 할지 아는데에는  9천 9백 9십불이 필요 합니다. 그말 을 듣고 할수 없이 포드는 만불을 보냈다고 합니다.

A few days later Henry Ford received a bill from Steinmetz for $10,000. Although Ford was a rich man, he couldn’t believe it. Paying such a big amount of money was out of the question, especially for what appeared to be such a small amount of work. Ford returned the bill with the following note: “Charlie, isn’t this bill awful high for just a few minutes of tinkering around with a couple of wires and switches?” Steinmetz rewrote the bill and sent it back. It now read: “For tinkering around with the generator: $10. For knowing where to tinker: $9,990. Total $10,000. Ford paid the bill.

 

공장이 크든지 작든지 중요한 것은 그 기술자입니다. 이 이야기가 우리에게 하고 있는 말이 있습니다. 그것은 “돈을 낼때는 따지지 말고 내자” 가 아니라 “무엇을 안다는 것”이 중요하다고 우리에게 이야기 하고 있는 것입니다. 그래서 베이컨이라는 사람은 이렇게 말했습니다 “아는 것이 힘이다” 지식은 중요합니다. 성경은 특별히 하나님에 대해서 아는 그런 지식은 우리 인간에게 가장 중요한 것이라고 말하고 있습니다.

No matter how big or how small, the plants would not run without Charles Steinmetz. So the point of this story is “to know”   So Francis Bacon said, “Knowledge is power” Knowledge is also important, in the Bible particular knowledge of God is very important to the human beings.

 

하루는 모세와 아론이 바로왕을 만나러 갔습니다. 그리고 하나님의 말씀을 전했습니다. “이스라엘의 하나님께서 당신의 백성을 광야로 보내서 하나님께 예배드리라고 했으니 이스라엘 백성들 보내주시오” 그런데 바로는 그 말에 대해서 이렇게 말합니다. ‘도대체 너의 하나님이 누군데 내가 그 말에 순종을 해야 되느냐? 나는 너의 하나님이 누군지도 모르고 나는 이스라엘을 보낼수 없다’ 고말합니다.

One day,  Moses and Aaron  went to Pharaoh and said, “This is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says, ;Let my people go so that they may hold a festival to me in the desert” But Pharaoh said, “Who is the Lord, that I should obey him and let Israel go?  I do not know the Lord and I will not let Israel go”

 

한편으로 그 바로왕의 마음이 이해가 되기도 합니다. 그 사람은 이스라엘의 하나님에게 대해서 들어볼 기회도 없었을 것이기 때문입니다. 그는 아마도 이스라엘에 하나님이 있다면, 왜 그하나님은 이스라엘을 이집트의 노예로 만들어 놓는가? 민약에 하나님이 있어도 이집트의 신들보다 약한 하나님이라고 생각했을 것입니다. 그런데 내가 그 모세의 말을 꼭 들어야 하는가?

Somehow, I can understand the mind of Pharaoh because he might not have had not a chance to hear about  the God of Israel. He probably thought that if there is a God of Israel, why would he let his people be Egyptian slave until now? If there is a God of Israel, He is weaker than our god of Egypt, do I need to pay attention to what Moses’ said,”

 

그 바로왕이 일부러 하나님을 모른다고 했든지 아니면 정말 하나님을 알수 있는기회가 없어서 그랬는지는 몰라도 어째튼 하나님을 모르기에 그는 너무나 큰 어려움을 당해야만 했습니다. 여러분도 알다시피 하나님께 순종하지 않음으로 그들은 물이 피로 변하는 그런 어려움부터 첫 장자가 다 죽어버리는 재앙을 만나게 될 뿐만 아니라 그의 병사들은 전부다 홍해에서 죽게 되어 버립니다.  하나님을 몰랐기에 그런 변을 당하게 된 것입니다.

Whether he intentionally did not know God or he had no chance to know God, the result of ignorance of God was very severe to him and his country.  He and his country faced 10 plagues from the bloody water to the death of the firstborn furthermore his soldier died in the Red sea.

 

여러분 사도 바울에 대해서도 이야기 해봅시다. 사도 바울은 예수님이 누구신지 몰랐습니다. 그랬기 때문에 많은 기독교인을 핍박했을 뿐만 아니라, 스테반을 죽이는 자리에 동참하기 까지 합니다. 예수님을 몰랐던 때의 열정과 그 진심이 오히려 사울로 하여금 더욱 잘못된 길로 들어서게 했던 것입니다. 그래서 아는 것이 중요합니다.

Let’s talk about the Apostle Paul, when Paul did not know that Jesus is the Christ, He persecuted many Christians; He even was a hearty agreement with putting Stephen to death. His enthusiasm without Jesus, and his passion without knowledge accelerated him to do wrong things. 

 

그래서 하나님은 선지자 호세아를 통해서 이렇게 말씀하십니다. “내 백성이 나를 아는 지식이 없으므로 망하는도다”  여러분 그 말씀을 듣고나서 호세아가 지금 우리에게 이렇게 말씀하십니다. “그러므로 우리가 여호와를 알자 힘써 여호와를 알자” 여호와를 알기 힘쓰는 여러분들이 되시기를 주님의 이름으로 축원합니다. 

That’s why God said through the Prophet Hosea, “My people are destroyed from lack of knowledge, and my people are destroyed because they have rejected knowledge” Do you hear what prophet Hosea is crying out? “Let us know, Let us press on to know him”

 

 

그런데 단지 하나님을 아는 것만으로는 충분하지 않습니다. 무슨말이냐면, 우리는 단지 여호와를 아는 지식이 있는 것만으로 만족해서는 안된다는 것입니다.우리는 거기서 한단계 나가서 다른 사람으로 하여금 여호와를 알게 하는 하여야 합니다. 성경에 의하면 우리는 책임이 있습니다. 어떤 책임이냐면, 우리가 들은 것을 다른 사람에게 알려주어야 하는 그런 책임이 있습니다. 예수님께서 마지막 하늘로 승천하실 때에 우리에게 부탁하셨습니다. “너희는 가서 복음을 전하라” 하나님에 대한 그 지식을 전하라는 것입니다. 

However, just to know God is not enough to us according to the Bible. We cannot be satisfied with Knowledge alone, there is one more step and that is we must let Him be known to others.  We have a responsibility to deliver what we have heard.  When Jesus ascended to Heaven, he left His last word to the disciples and us.  That is “preach the good news to all creation”

 

에스겔서를 보면 조금 더 심각하게 우리에게 말씀하고 있습니다. 같이 한번 볼까요?  가령 내가 악인에게 이르기를 악인아 너는 정녕 죽으리라 하였다 하자 네가 그 악인에게 말로 경고하여 그 길에서 떠나게 아니하면 그 악인은 자기 죄악 중에서 죽으려니와 내가 그 피를 네 손에서 찾으리라 그러나 너는 악인에게 경고하여 돌이켜 그 길에서 떠나라고 하되 그가 돌이켜 그 길에서 떠나지 아니하면 그는 자기 죄악 중에서 죽으려니와 너는 네 생명을 보전하리라

There is a more serious warning to us in the Book of Ezekiel. God said, “When I say to the wicked, 'O wicked man, you will surely die,' and you do not speak out to dissuade him from his ways, that wicked man will die for his sin, and I will hold you accountable for his blood. But if you do warn the wicked man to turn from his ways and he does not do so, he will die for his sin, but you will have saved yourself” (Ezekiel 33:8-9)

 

그래서 전도한다는 것은 해도 되고 안해도 되는 것이 아니고, 우리가 책임을 가지고 해야 하는 것입니다. 다시 말하면 전도는 기독교인의 옵션이 아니라 필수로, 꼭 하나님앞에 감당해야 하는 사명이 되는 것입니다.

So the evangelism is not an option but a necessary thing that we should do. Preaching the gospel is not a matter that we should do or should not do. It is a mandatory work that God gave us. 

 

베드로와 요한이 담대하게 사람들 앞에서 복음을 전했습니다. 그 때에 이스라엘의 지도자들이 복음이 전파되는 것을 굉장히 싫어했기 때문에 베드로와 요한을 불러다가 그들에게 복음을 전하지도 말고 가르치지도 말라고 이야기 합니다. 그때에 베드로와 요한이 뭐라고 이야기 합니까? “ 우리는 우리가 보고 들은 것을 말하지 않을수 없다” 무슨 말입니까? 우리는 꼭 이야기를 해야만 한다고 하는 것입니다.

Peter and John boldly preached the gospel in public but the leaders of Israel were greatly disturbed by their spreading the gospel. So they called Peter and John to command and threatened them not to speak or teach at all in the name of Jesus. Peter and John replied, “For we cannot help speaking about what we have seen and heard”

 

그렇게 전도하는 것이 중요함에도 불구하고 우리가 하지 않는 몇몇의 이유가 있습니다. 첫번째는 우리가 전도하면 다른 사람들이 우리를 “광신자 혹은 예수쟁이 로 알까 걱정이 되기 때문입니다. 두번째는 “나는 전도하는데에 기술도 없고 은사도 없고 재주도 없다고 생각하기 때문입니다” 세번째는 나는 다른 사람에게 복음을 전할만큼 충분히 잘 알지 못한다고 생각하기 때문입니다. 네번째는 교회에 가지고 자꾸 하면 다른 사람의 기분을 상하고 프라이버시를 침해한다고  할 까바 걱정이 되기 때문에 우리는 그런 이유로 우리는 전도하기를 꺼려합니다. 심지어 어떤 기독교인들은 교회에서 전도하자는 말을 듣는 것 조차 부담스러워 합니다.

There are some reasons that we do not evangelize, Ben Campbell pointed out. The first is that “I don’t want my friends to turn me off because I’m religious.” Yes, we have a fear of rejection. The second is that “Other person is more gifted in personal witnessing than I” Yes, we think we are not gifted. The third is that “I don’t think I understand the gospel well enough to convince someone else” Yes, we probably do not understand God’s word fully. The fourth is that “I’ve always felt that a person’s faith was private and I don’t want to intrude” and we have many reasons to do not evangelize. Some Christians even do not want to hear about evangelism in the church because they think evangelism is difficult and they don’t know how to approach to others.

 

사랑하는 여러분 전도하는 것에 대해 그렇게 부담을 갖지 마시기 바랍니다. 전도는 그렇게 어려운 것이 아닙니다. 만약에 내가 전도를 하는 것이다라고 생각하면 전도처럼 어려운 것이 없습니다. 그런데 내가 전도하는 것이 아니고 하나님께서 나를 사용하신다 나는 단지 말씀을 증거하는 도구이다”라고 생각하면 전도가 그렇게 어려운 것이 되지 않습니다.

My brother and sister! Evangelism is not that difficult thing. If you think you evangelize by yourself, you could feel there is nothing more difficult than evangelism. But if you think God evangelize and you are a just His tool of Him, you could think it is easier than you expect.

 

오늘 본문은 우리가 어떻게 전도를 할 것인가에 대한 아주 간단한원리를 보여주고 있습니다. 만약에 여러분이 전도하는 것에 대해 충분히 훈련된 사람이고 아는 지식이 많다면 전도를 하는 것 자체는 별로 어렵지 않을 것일수 있습니다, 그러나 걱정하지 마십시요. 우리가 훈련이되어 있지 않아도, 전도를 쉽게 시작할수 있습니다. 오늘 본문에는 아람나라의 군대장관 나아만이이라는 사람이 나옵니다. 여러분도 아시다시피 그 사람은 문둥병자였습니다, 그리고 그 사람을 치료해줄만한 사람이 없었고, 나아만은 그저 죽음만을 눈앞에 놓고 있는 그런 사람이었습니다.

Today’s passage shows a simple principle on how to evangelize. If you are trained how to evangelize, you could deliver the gospel to others.  But don’t worry if you are not even trained to evangelize. There was a commander of the army of the king of Aram, called Naaman. As you know, he was sick, he had leprosy and there was none to heal him. It was a  desperate situation for Naamn.

 

그러던 어느날 이스라엘에서 잡아온 포로가 된 하녀가 나아만 장군의 부인에게 가서 이런 말을 합니다. “우리 주인이 사마리아에 가서 선지자를 만나보았으면 좋겠습니다. 아마 그 선지자는 우리 주인을 치료할수 있을 것입니다” 그리고 그 부인은 그 말을 남편에서 전하고, 나아만 장군은 마침내 사마리아 땅에 선지자를 찾아가서 그 문둥병을 치료받게 됩니다. 그 조그만 하녀가 한일이 무엇입니까? 그저 말할 것 밖에 없습니다. 그저 자신이 알고 있는 것에 대해서 말한 것뿐이 없습니다.

One day, a young female slave who was taken captive from Israel, came to Naaman’s wife and said, “I wish my master would go to see the prophet in Samaria. He would heal him of his leprosy” She just told him about the prophet in Samaria, and that made Naaman decided to go to Samaria to be healed. The only thing she did was just to tell. She spoke of what she knew.

 

여러분은 전도하기 위해서 어려운 말을 할 필요가 없습니다. 속죄함의 은혜를 아십니까? 성화되고 있습니까? 뭐 그런 어려운 말하지 않아도 좋습니다. 그저 가서 여러분이 알고 있는 것을 말하십시오. “죄인들이 가는 지옥이 있다는 것을 알고 있습니까?” “ 당신은 죄인이고 지옥에 갈수 밖에 없습니다” 이렇게 겁을 줄 필요도 없습니다 그저 나는 당신이 이번 부활절에는 나와 같이 교회가서 예수님을 만났으면 좋겠습니다.  라고 말하는 것도 구원의 계기가 될수 있습니다. 

You don’t have to say big words and religious words like sanctification, redemption or things like that. Just go and tell what you know. You don’t have to begin with like that “do you know there are a heaven and a hell”, or “you are sinner who deserves to die” You can just say “I wish you would go with me and meet Jesus in our church this Easter”

 

여러분 신약성경으로 가봅시다.빌립이 나다나엘에게 예수님에 대해서 말했습니다. 그 때 빌립은 다른 화려한 말한 것이 아니었습니다. 그는 단지 “모세가 예언하던 그리스도를 찾았다. 그 사람의 이름은 예수야”라고 말한뒤에 한마디 더했습니다. “와봐라 Come and See” 와봐라, 이 것 한마디가 나다나엘에게는 충분한 인도가 되었고, 그 때문에 나다나엘은 예수님을 만나게 됩니다. 

Let’s go to the New Testament, where Philip told Nathanael about Jesus, he didn’t say many words or any big words. He simply said, “We have found the very person Moses and the prophets wrote about! His name is Jesus” and just added one thing “Come and See” As you know, that was enough invitation for Nathanael. Nathanael came and met Jesus.

 

예수님이 사마리아의 어떤 우물에서 한 여인을 만나십니다. 예수님은 그 여인에게 당신이 메시야라고 이야기를 해주십니다. 그 여인이 예수님이 누구신지 알게 난 후에 그녀는 물긷던 물통을 놔두고 마을로 들어가서 마을 사람들을 만났습니다. 그리고 무슨 말을 했을까요? “와서 봐라 내가 그리스도를 만났다” 그 한마디에 많은 사마리아 사람들이 예수님을 믿게 되었습니다. “와보라” 이 한마디가 많은 사람들을 예수님께로 이끌었던 것입니다.

One day Jesus met a Samaritan woman at a well. Jesus told her about that He is the Messiah. After the women met Jesus, she rushed to the town leaving her water jar and said to the people “Come and see I have met the  Christ” Many of the Samaritans from that town believed in him because of the woman’s testimony. Her saying “Come and See” was enough to lead many to Jesus.

 

여러분이 예수님을 믿고, 또한 여러분의 삶이 변하였다면, 가서 단순하게 말할수 있습니다. “와봐라” 빌립이 그랬던 것처럼, 사마리아의 여인이 그랬던 것처럼 그저 “와바라” 한마디에 어떤 사람의 삶의 변화되고, 구원이 임하게 되는 것입니다. 누군가 예수님을 믿고 믿지 않는 것은 우리에게 달린 일이 아닙니다. 예수님을 믿게 되는 것은 성령님의 일입니다. 그러나 사람을 초청하고, 격려하고, 간구하고, 예수님에 대해서 이야기 해주는 것은 우리의 책임입니다. 

Once you believed in Jesus, your life was changed, if you have been changed since you meet Jesus, why don’t you tell people “Come and See”  to people?  as Philip did and as the Samaritan woman did.  To believe in Jesus or not to believe in Jesus does not depend on us. To believe in Jesus depend on Holy Spirit! But inviting, encouraging, asking and telling are our responsibilities.

 

어려분 예수님께서 하신 말씀이 기억나십니까? “눈을 들어 밭을 보라 추수할 때가 가까웠도다” 말씀하셨습니다. 이 말은 우리가 가서 “와보라”해야 할 사람이 많다는 것을 이야기 합니다. 영국의 한 목사님이 기독교인 253명을  데리고 이런 조사를 했습니다. 한번 보겠습니다.

Do you remember what Jesus said? He said, “open your eyes and look at the field they are ripe for harvest” That means it is time to go and tell to others “Come and See” a Scottish preacher Horatius Bonar asked 253 Christian friends at what ages they were converted. Here's what he discovered:

 

20 살 이전에 예수를 믿은 사람이 54%, 20-30 살 사이에 예수님을 믿는 사람은 33.6 % 입니다. 그리고 30-40살 사이는 8.7 %로 확줄어 줄어듭니다. 그러다가 50-60살 사이에 예수님을 믿게 되는 사람은 불과 1.2% 그리고 70살이 넘어서 예수님을 믿는 사람은 거의 없습니다.  이 것을 보니, 나이가 많이 들어갈수록 예수를 점점 믿기 어려워진다는 것입니다. 그렇기 때문에 되도록이면 하루라도 빨리 예수님을 전하는 것이 필요하다는 것입니다.

 Under 20 years of age - 138 (54.5%) ,  Between 20 and 30 - 85 (33.6%) , Between 30 and 40 - 22 (8.7%)

Between 40 and 50 - 4 (1.6%) , Between 50 and 60 - 3 (1.2%) , Between 60 and 70 - 1 (.4%) , Over 70 – 0. These statistics means the more older people are; the more people they do not receive Jesus as their Savior. And it also means that it would be better to begin earlier to introduce others to Jesus.

 

안다는 것 ‘지식’은 중요합니다. 기술자는 자기가 다루는 기계에 대해서 알아야 합니다. 선생님은 학생들이 무엇을 배워야 하는지 알아야 합니다. 의사는 환자를 어떻게 진찰해야 하는지, 환자의 몸에 대해서 알아야 합니다. 마찬가지로 기독교인은 어떻게 구원을 받아야 하는지 알아야 합니다. 그러나 아는 것만으로는 충분하지 않습니다. 우리는 우리가 알고 있는 것을, 우리가 경험한 것을 말해야 합니다.

Knowledge is important. A technician knows how to operate a machine, a teacher knows what students need to learn, a doctor knows about how examine a human body and a Christians like you and me know how to be saved. But just knowledge is not enough to do something. We must share what we know. We must tell what we experienced.

 

기술자는 자기의 지식을 머리에만 가지고 있으며 안되고, 기계가 고장났을 때에 고쳐야 하고, 선생님은 자신의 지식을 학생들에게 나누어 주어야합니다. 의사는 병이 무엇인지, 어떻게 병을 고칠 것인지 환자에게 알려 주어야 합니다. 마찬가지로 우리 기독교인들은 어떻게 영생을 얻는 것인지, 예수님이 어떤 분이신지, 알려 주어야합니다. 그 영적인 지식을 우리만 알고 있으면 안됩니다. 우리는 “와보라”하고 담대하게 말해야 합니다. 그래서 바울은 이렇게 말씀하였습니다. “내가 복음을 전할지라도 자랑할 것이 없음은 내가 부득불 할일 임이라, 만일 복음을 전하지 아니하면 내게 화가 있을 것임이로다”

A technician should share what he knows about how  to fix a machine. A teacher should share what he knows to his student to educate and a doctor must tell what he knows for patients to be healed. Likewise a Christians speak to people about how to get eternal life and who is Jesus Christ. Just to know is not enough to save people. We’ve got to tell, “Come and see Jesus” That’s why Paul said, “Yet when I preach the gospel, I cannot boast, for I am compelled to preach. Woe to me if I do not preach the gospel!

 

저는 이시간 여러분이 성령님의 도전하는 음성을 듣기 원합니다. “예수님을 알라, 그리고 예수님을 알게 하라”입니다. 우리는 한 사람을 더욱 구해야 합니다. 성경은 우리에게 아주 확실하게 말씀하고 있습니다.  “하나님을 모르는 자들과 우리 주 예수의 복음을 복종치 않는 자들에게 형벌을 주시리니” (살후1:8) 누가 가서 예수님을 알려주시겠습니까? 바로 여러분이 예수를 알려야 하는 사람인 줄로 믿으시기 바랍니다.

I hope you listen to the Holy Spirit’s voice that challenges us this time. “To know Jesus and to make Jesus known” We must try to save others, one by one. The Bible says clearly in the second book of Thessalonians 1:8, “He will punish those who do not know God and do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus. Who are going to let people know about Jesus? Believe me “you are the right person to make Jesus known”

 

 

Let us bow down our head and take a time to pray. “Are there people those who are in need in your circle?” “Are there people who need to know Jesus Christ?” Let us pray that “Lord let me know who need Jesus and help me make Jesus known to them”

 

 

Let me pray for you.

Dear Lord! We know that preaching the good news is each one of us job. We realized that we have the responsibility to let people know Jesus. Help us to open our eyes and see who needs Jesus and help us open our lips to deliver the message of Jesus Christ. We love you, we honor you, as much as we respect and even fear you, let us be a sincere messenger for you. In the name of Jesus We pray. Amen
